2 Members of the Hingham Militia head into Military Service following the 4th of July Parade

2 of Hingham Militia's own leave for service in our United States Military.

The Hingham Militia has long been a place where history is brought to life—not just through uniforms and muskets, but through the values of dedication, service, and civic pride. This summer, the unit bids farewell and offers its deepest respect to two young men who have embodied those values from an early age: Boris Goldin and Paul Cheverie. After years of representing the spirit of colonial militia life, they are now answering a modern call to service—Boris enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, and Paul in the United States Army.

Both Boris and Paul have grown up with the Militia, learning not only the drills and traditions of 18th-century patriots but also the deeper meaning behind them. They have participated in parades, ceremonies, educational events, and reenactments across Massachusetts, proudly wearing the uniform of those who stood for liberty and sacrifice. Through these experiences, they’ve helped the public connect with the American Revolution, honoring the everyday citizens who became soldiers in the fight for independence.

Their decision to enlist in the armed forces feels like a natural continuation of that commitment. Where once they portrayed young men preparing to defend their towns and ideals, they now take on the real-life responsibility of safeguarding the freedoms those early patriots helped secure. It’s a powerful and humbling parallel—and one that resonates deeply with every member of the Hingham Militia. Boris and Paul are no longer just students of history; they are now part of the living story of American service.

As they prepare to leave for training, the unit stands proudly behind them—not just as fellow reenactors, but as a community that has watched them grow into honorable young men. Their presence will be missed at events, but their example will continue to inspire. Younger members will remember the way Boris carried his musket with quiet focus and how Paul drilled with enthusiasm and care, never forgetting the purpose behind the uniform.

The Hingham Militia sends Boris and Paul off with heartfelt gratitude, pride, and support. We thank them for their years of service to this organization and salute them as they take on their new and courageous roles in the real armed services. Their journey is a reminder that the values we honor in reenactment—duty, sacrifice, and country—are not just relics of the past. They live on, and they march forward, in young men like Boris and Paul.

Thank you to the Hingham 4th of July crew who taped this historic moment as Hingham celebrated the 4th in style.
