Through steady snowfall that seemed to soften the edges of the town, Hingham gathered to celebrate the 293rd birthday of Benjamin Lincoln, marking a meaningful kickoff to local America 250 observances. Members of the Hingham Militia Lead by Captain Kevin Donovan, stood alongside elements of the 22nd Massachusetts Infantry, honoring not only the Revolutionary legacy of General Lincoln but also the leadership of John A. Andrew, whose prominence during the Civil War and close work with Abraham Lincoln helped shape Massachusetts’ role in preserving the Union.
Following the opening ceremony, the formation marched through the snow to Fountain Square, where a ceremonial musket volley rang out in front of General Lincoln’s former home. With flakes falling and the town watching in quiet awe, the moment bridged centuries of service—linking the Revolution and the Civil War in a single tribute to duty, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of Hingham.
