Honoring Our Volunteers: Bringing History to Life in Hingham

Members of Benjamin Lincoln’s Unit, 2nd Suffolk Regiment, 1st of Foote, recently joined forces with the Hingham Historical Society for a special educational collaboration at the Benjamin Lincoln House.

Over the course of two days, volunteers Jerry, Sean, Peter, Ben, and Richard dedicated their time to bringing the Revolutionary War era to life for students and community members. Dressed in full period uniforms and equipped with authentic props and display items — including muskets, canteens, and clothing — the group provided an engaging and hands-on learning experience.

Their efforts have been met with enthusiastic praise from the community. Residents and educators alike have commented on the exceptional quality of the presentation and the valuable contribution it made to local history education. Many noted how fortunate the Town of Hingham and its schools are to have volunteers so deeply committed to preserving and sharing the past.

In addition to the group’s educational work, a new first aid kit was generously donated by Jerry for future use at encampments and living history events.

This partnership between the regiment and the Hingham Historical Society highlights the powerful impact of volunteerism in keeping history alive. The dedication of these historians exemplifies the spirit of service and passion that continues to connect the present with the past.
